U = U means “undetectable equals untransmittable.” But what does that mean!?

It means that people living with HIV who have an undetectable level of virus in their blood due to treatment are unable to transmit the virus to others. THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!

U=U in Baton Rouge

In 2019, Mayor Broome signed on to the support of the U=U Campaign. The U=U campaign is a national effort to highlight evidence that people living with HIV cannot transmit the virus to sexual partners if they are receiving care and taking medications to control the virus to the point it cannot be detected in the blood. In other words, Undetectable=Untransmittable.
