Maternal & Infant Health

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Maternal Health as the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. Infancy refers to the period of time from birth until 2 years of age. A variety of things can impact the health of an infant. The best start to an infant's health starts with a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

  • Louisiana has the 2nd highest Infant Mortality rate in the United States

  • Louisiana received an F from March Of Dimes Report Card covering the health of pregnant people and babies across the US

  • In Region 2, Black infants are 2.2 times more likely to die than white infants

  • The Maternal Mortality rate in Louisiana in 2018 was 25.2 per 100,000 live births
