The Maternal and Infant Health Coalition of over 50 partner organizations whose mission is to Promote and Connect Baton Rouge to maternal health resources.

History of Baton Rouge Maternal and Infant Health Coalition

The Maternal and Infant Health Coalition was formed in 2021 following Maternal and Infant Health being identified as a significant health need on the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment. Although, many of the members of the coalition have been working together for many years, under the leadership of Mayor Broome and HealthyBR the maternal and infant health coalition aims to be a connector between local, state, and national partners and coalitions to help facilitate collaboration, coordinate, communication for East Baton Rouge Parish specifically.  

Coalition Mission Statement: To improve the health outcomes of mothers and infants in East Baton Rouge Parish through education, awareness, coordination of services, and engaging community support systems.

Coalition Value Statement: The Maternal and Infant Health Coalition is a community-centered and equity-driven collaborative that has come together to improve health outcomes for mothers and infants in East Baton Rouge Parish.  We will be accountable to our community and fellow coalition members, inclusive by engaging all family structures and support systems, bold and compassionate to create positive change in our community. The coalition is focused on serving three phases of Maternal Health: Preconception, Healthy Birth and Pregnancy, and Postpartum.

In 2022, the coalition is planning to:

  • Partner with the CDC to launch a local "Hear Her Concerns" Campaign in east Baton Rouge Parish.

  • Develop and promote a maternal and infant health database of resources and services in East Baton Rouge Parish.
