Geaux Get Healthy

Geaux Get Healthy is a coalition of local organizations who are working together to make fresh food affordable and accessible and to co-create a thriving local food landscape.

Since 2019, Geaux Get Healthy Partners have:

  • Grown more than 32,178 pounds of produce;

  • Distributed 221,784 pounds of fresh food;

  • Surveyed 2,466 people about their food security and overall health.

  • Reached more than 38,000 community members to ask about their lived experience with food insecurity and to connect them with Geaux Get Healthy program resources and health information;

  • Provided more than 350 education experiences - cooking demos, cooking classes, grocery store tours, and virtual learning experiences.​

Provides Healthy for Life©  curriculum, trained educators, and program consulting to support Community Wellness Programs. AHA also provides Community Wellness programs with cooking equipment and conducts food demos and other educational programming in collaboration with other partners.
Baton Roots is a 4-acre urban farm and community garden located within a BREC park. Baton Roots brings an opportunity for the community to learn best practices in sustainable agriculture on an urban farm. In addition to the farm, Baton Roots partners with three school garden sites where they deliver the Hustle & Grow agricultural curriculum and has leveraged that work to partner with the East Baton Rouge Housing Authority. Baton Roots operates 11 garden sites at East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority properties.  

In 2019, Top Box Foods expanded its existing New Orleans operation to serve the Baton Rouge community. Top Box currently offers a door-to-door grocery box delivery program and partners with 10 corner stores to provide fresh food and infrastructure support. In addition, Top Box works with local farmers and other organizations to increase the amount of local food in their home-delivered boxes and partners with a variety of community organizations to supply boxes for Community Food Share events.

Fresh Food Hub
A collaborative project to evaluate a food hub model for improving access to affordable, fresh food and building local food culture infrastructure. 

Community Garden Network
Creation of a centralized, city-wide community gardening and volutneer program to ensure sustainability of existing and new community gardens.

Community Wellness
Free Community Wellness and In-School programming in eight community organizaitons and three schools  that includes cooking classes, grocery store tours, nutrition education.
